Urban Pigments explores how light reveals color within the architecture and environments of cities. The project documents moments when sunlight transforms buildings, streets, interiors, and urban structures into striking fields of color and shadow.
Each photograph isolates a moment where color appears naturally in the built environment. Instead of labeling colors with simple names, each image is paired with a historical pigment name drawn from the traditions of painting.
Beside every photograph is a small hand-painted acrylic pigment swatch. This physical paint sample allows viewers to compare the pigment with the color created by light in the photograph. The project encourages viewers to slow down and look carefully at colors that exist in everyday spaces but are often overlooked.
